We’re proud to share that Mark Breitfuss, co-Director at Epic Environmental (part of Montrose Environmental Group), has been recognised as a Top 50 Sustainability Leader in ANZ for 2025. This recognition highlights not only Mark’s personal commitment to sustainability leadership but also the impact of Epic and the broader Montrose Environmental Group in shaping sustainable solutions for the future.
Reflecting on this achievement, Mark shared: “Collaboration is the key to driving real environmental change. No one organisation can solve the climate crisis or deliver the energy transition alone. But by bringing together industry, government and communities, we can achieve meaningful, lasting impact.”
Epic Environmental's sustainability journey is inspired by our commitment to finding a balance between environmental stewardship and economic development. We believe that socially responsible environmental management is a catalyst for sustainable economic growth. This philosophy guides our mission to provide innovative environmental solutions that benefit both our clients and the environment, leaving a positive legacy.
Championing Change: Critical Minerals for a Clean Energy Future
One of our most powerful sustainability initiatives is supporting the development of Vanadium projects in the Northwest Minerals Province. Vanadium is essential to battery storage systems, which are critical to the global energy transition.
Our team has been instrumental in:
Guiding environmental approvals
Supporting decarbonisation planning
Conducting climate change risk assessments
This work aligns directly with Queensland’s Critical Minerals Strategy and helps position the state as a global leader in responsibly sourced, future-facing minerals.
What’s Next?
We’re expanding our role across the clean energy landscape—supporting Vanadium, hydrogen, solar, wind, and energy storage projects. Epic’s expertise spans approvals, sustainability strategy, and climate adaptation.
We’re also leading conversations around common user infrastructure—including shared power and water services—essential to unlocking the full potential of critical minerals hubs and delivering resilient regional growth.
Lessons to Share
Collaboration is the key to driving real environmental change. No one organisation can solve the climate crisis or deliver the energy transition alone—but by bringing together industry, government, and communities, we can achieve a meaningful, lasting impact.
At Epic Environmental, we've learned that early integration of sustainability, climate risk, and enabling infrastructure—like power and water—is critical to unlocking the potential of critical minerals and delivering resilient, low-carbon projects.
Another key lesson is the importance of thinking beyond compliance. The most successful projects aren't just those that tick the regulatory boxes—they’re the ones that embed innovation, transparency, and long-term environmental value from the start.
Finally, don’t underestimate the power of bold ideas and committed people. By staying curious, challenging assumptions, and keeping sustainability at the centre of every decision, we can help shape a cleaner, more climate-resilient future for all.
