Sunwater Paradise Dam Ecology Surveys

Epic was engaged by Sunwater to undertake ecological surveys and impact assessment to support the Paradise Dam Improvement Project. This project involved construction of a replacement dam wall and will allow Paradise Dam to return to its full supply level. Paradise Dam is located on the Burnett River, southwest of Bundaberg and supplies water to the Wide Bay-Burnett region. Constructing a replacement dam wall will ensure safe and secure water supply to and support the region’s growing agricultural, industrial and urban sectors.

The Ecology team designed and managed comprehensive flora and fauna surveys in accordance with relevant guidelines and policies for threatened species. Two dedicated flora and fauna teams carried out the surveys over six days, including night-time spotlighting, and identified key areas of environmental significance within the project area. Survey findings were presented in Ecological Assessment Reports and Referrals to support project impact assessments under Commonwealth, State and local legislation.
