24 Review of Environmental Factors (REFs) to support the timely delivery of priority works projects
SERVICES /

A Northern NSW local government that oversees a vast rural region encompassing seven villages and serving over 7,000 residents has recently faced significant environmental pressures due to extreme weather events, such as flooding. These events have accelerated the degradation of key transport routes and road infrastructure, compromising the reliability of this infrastructure and posing safety risks for motorists.
To address these challenges, the local government committed to a strategic infrastructure upgrade program focused on improving road safety, connectivity, and climate resilience throughout the area. Central to this effort was the development of 24 Review of Environmental Factors (REFs) to support the timely delivery of priority works projects across the area. The REFs enabled the local government to pursue targeted upgrades thatwould restore damaged infrastructure, while also enhancing its resilience against future extreme weather events.
This coordinated approach reflects the local government’s commitment to proactive planning and environmental stewardship, ensuring that infrastructure improvements are delivered efficiently, with minimal ecological disruption. The upgrades will enhance regional accessibility, support economic activity, and safeguard communities from the increasing frequency and severity of adverse weather events.
