EPIC ESSENTIALS

Epic is currently seeking a talented Principal Aquatic Ecologist with a minimum of 15 years’ experience to join our Brisbane office. This is a fantastic opportunity for a market-facing consultant who is looking to elevate their career to the next level.


As a Principal Aquatic Ecologist, you will leverage your industry-leading profile and reputation to complement Epic's established standing in the environmental sector. You will play a pivotal role in attracting and mentoring like-minded professionals, building and developing an industry-leading aquatic ecology team. You’ll work on high-impact projects across our diverse client base while also having the opportunity to shape the direction of aquatic ecology within the company.


Key responsibilities:

  • Build and develop an aquatic ecology team and mentor junior team members

  • Undertake the planning and implementation of field-based data collection in line with State, Territory, and Commonwealth regulatory requirements

  • Support the delivery of a range of projects across multiple sectors, ensuring that they are completed on time, within scope, cost, and quality requirements

  • Prepare clear, science-based technical reports that stand up to community and regulatory scrutiny

  • Develop and maintain client relationships

  • Liaise with service providers for the purposes of service delivery

  • Participate in the company’s strategy and innovation efforts, contributing ideas for continuous improvement

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

To be considered for this position, you will need to possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications, from a recognised institution, in ecology or an environmental science related discipline, or similar relevant degree

  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in an environmental consulting role, preferably operating in Australia

  • Proven ability to attract, mentor, and develop a high-calibre aquatic ecology team

  • Strong ability to build relationships, manage projects, and contribute to business development activities

  • Strong knowledge and experience with aquatic fauna sampling methods, including netting, traps and electrofishing

  • Strong knowledge and experience with other aquatic ecology sampling methods, including macroinvertebrate, diatom and zooplankton sampling

  • In-depth knowledge and experience with statistical packages and data analysis as it relates to aquatic ecology data

  • Strong understanding of the statutory frameworks, policies, and science-based approaches that govern the collection and reporting of aquatic ecological concepts

  • Proven experience with preparing winning proposals for small to large scale projects

  • Proven experience in engaging with client engagement and management

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a passion for training and mentoring junior staff

  • A current driver's license and ability to drive manual and automatic vehicles

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a cohesive team and take ownership of projects, ensuring they are delivered successfully
