Epic was engaged by Ernest Henry Mining Pty Ltd (EHMPL), owned by Evolution Mining, to prepare a Transitional PRC Plan for the Ernest Henry Operation in northwest Queensland under section 754 of the Environmental Protection Act 1994. Commencing in 1998 using open cut methods, mining currently employs sub-level caving methods, and the mine produces approximately 6.8 Mtpa of copper and gold ore.
The main purposes of the PRC plan are to:
Demonstrate that the mine has a plan for where, how, and when activities will be carried out on land in a way that maximises the progressive rehabilitation of the land to a stable condition
Nominate the standard to which land disturbed by mining will be rehabilitated or improved prior to environmental authority surrender
The Epic project team worked collaboratively with EHMPL to review and collate relevant information from environmental impact assessment, technical studies, rehabilitation trials, monitoring reports, and management plans spanning over 30 years to develop a comprehensive rehabilitation strategy. During preparation of the PRC Plan, the team also conducted a rehabilitation risk assessment workshop, developed a Community Consultation Plan, and prepared a final landform digital elevation model.
