We are looking for a junior ecologist to join our team. If you are a recent graduate from Environmental Science or have up to 3 years’ experience in environmental consulting, we’d like to hear from you! The role will be best suited to someone with an interest in ecology, plant science or natural resource management.


Epic’s Ecology Team is currently well-established in Queensland and is respected in the industry with a diverse range of national clients and projects. The role will comprise a dynamic range of ecological and environmental professional service tasks, including fieldwork, planning and reporting.


To be considered for this position, you will need to possess the following skills/experience, or an interest in developing these skills:

  • Tertiary qualification from a recognised institution in Environmental Science or Natural Resource Management, with a special interest in ecology

  • An enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn new skills

  • Experience undertaking ecological fieldwork, within Queensland environments

  • Ability and willingness to travel and conduct ecological fieldwork in remote locations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience in relevant environmental reporting

  • Experience with GIS desktop and data collection packages such as ESRI ArcGIS and/or QGIS

  • Ability to work independently, or with other ecologists and environmental professionals, in the planning, delivery and management of ecology surveys; analysis, evaluation and reporting of results; impact assessments, and the design and implementation of successful mitigation strategies

  • Support internal clients with delivering ecological requirements for multi-disciplinary tenders and projects

  • Current driver’s license

  • Previous consulting experience will be well regarded

Noting graduates with limited consulting experience will be considered, the following traits are considered desirable:

  • 1 – 5 years experience in an environmental consulting role

  • A high level of competency in report writing

  • Experience in supporting key aspects of project management and administration, as well as remote fieldtrip planning and HSE management

  • Travelling to and conducting ecological fieldwork in remote locations

  • Experience in preparing ecological impact assessments and offsetting for a range of projects under Local Government, State and Commonwealth legislation

  • Experience in the preparation of management plans such as Vegetation Management Plans, Rehabilitation Management Plans and Offset Management Plans

  • Exposure to proposal writing and developing innovative approaches to solving client problems
