Spoonbill Lake, east Boambee, is situated within an urban dominated local catchment, comprised of privately owned residential properties. It is valued by residents for its recreational amenity and aesthetic.
A portion of the site had become inundated with sediment and aquatic weed species, so the council proposed works that would improve maintenance, mitigate flooding risks and allow greater amenity and use of the site for local residents.
The council engaged Epic to complete an Environmental Assessment under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (EP&A Act). The scope included:
- A review of relevant databases, monitoring data, and completed a site inspection;
- Review of the rehabilitation methodology in accordance with a recent Wetland Management Plan (Wetlandcare Australia 2015); and
- Conditions of approval included several environmental protection activities to clean-up and rehabilitate a portion of the site and surrounding riparian vegetation at the completion of works.
